...February newsletter 2006... |

“ I say to you today even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.” A famous opening to Martin Luther King’s speech. The word dream is defined, as something greatly desired, something excellent or very beautiful. Yet to many, dreams and reality are almost opposites. Dreaming is often likened to wishful thinking.
We are involved with ideas, mental images, making the impossible possible, and real, concrete. As we work to make each idea happen other ideas spin off. Some are fanciful just an intellectual ‘what if’ others hold exciting opportunities. Some belong in the now, others must wait. It is rather like putting together a jigsaw puzzle or piecing together a quilt. The picture itself is not static it grows and changes. It is a living thing. We too grow and change. Our skills, our confidence, our horizons are constantly on the move.
The challenge is to manage the change, to accomplish things as we journey. So February has seen a lot of family discussion, planning, prioritising. The discussions were very intense over Christmas as five of the six of us were together; the sixth was kept in the loop by email. They had continued until we had reached consensus. One of our strengths is discussing things, getting everyone’s point of view.
There’s a great crop hanging on the trees. The macadamias have loved the hot summer weather and are filling out fast. Plans are being drawn up for a new development, which will include a small commercial kitchen, storeroom, an office, and outside wet room: shower, toilet, hand basin. We are investigating being energy self- sufficient. Research and development projects are being scoped. Paul plans to move down to Taranaki and become more actively involved with the manufacturing side of the business. So more manpower!
We have attended three export workshops, two in Auckland and one in New Plymouth, part of our on going commitment to up skilling. Paul has done a lot of work on the website, a continuing project. We think he is doing a great job so if you are reading this go into our Guest Book and Feedback sections and comment, we’d love to hear from you.
We have had some great groups visit and tour The Nutcracker Suite this month. The Stratford Probus Club, Fitzroy Inner Wheel including members from South Taranaki, The New Plymouth Embroiders Club and The New Zealand Rolls-Royce and Bentley Club. Great questions, real interest and positive feedback from our guests make for very enjoyable visits. We thank you for your support and encouragement. Don’t forget you are all now official emacadamia ambassadors.
Bill has been hard at work all month pruning young trees, mowing, weed spraying and moving those rat bait stations around. The orchard looks a picture. Yes we do sneak time out especially over the back of the farm with barbeque meals at the river.
So keep dreaming.
