Happy New Year to All! Somehow this year it seems strange to say that glibly after the devastating Boxing Day tsunami. Yet we should all celebrate being alive and able to follow our dreams. One of New Zealand’s poets Ruth Dallas in her poem ‘The Office Cyclamen’ likened the life force that we all share to hounds hunting us. Sometimes ‘the hunt’ gets a bit much and we all need to reclaim some stillness.
As a family we captured some stillness on Christmas day by having breakfast outside under a lovely large copper beech tree and lunch over by the river. There is something very calming and soothing about trees and running water. The beauty of the natural world around us is a constant source of renewal, just look at the beauty of these native orchids growing wild on trees in our native bush on our property.
Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Speech said that we are all ‘brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous’ and challenged us to ‘let our own light shine’ so we would inspire others to do the same. And that is the challenge to us all, everyday, to let our light shine, to live positively and with enthusiasm, to celebrate being ALIVE!
So power to you. Kia Kaha be strong!
