Vintage car rally at The Nutcracker Suite factory and orchard tourMarch enews

We started March with a very professional trade show called ‘Let’s Hear it for the Girls’ where there was much interest in our products from jewellery to sliced macadamias. Several of the chefs demonstrating used our sliced macadamias in their dishes and are incorporating them into new menu changes at their restaurants.

Sliced macadamia nuts are so versatile and are one of the products we cannot live without. We start every day with natural slices on our cereal and they act like slow release fertiliser and keep you energised all morning eliminating the energy peaks and troughs and mid morning picking and snacking. They are so versatile and easy to use. We produce natural and roasted slices in three grades from fines like desiccated coconut to thumbnail sized. They are great and add texture and taste to any meal as well as the renowned macadamia goodness of Omega 3 and 6 and monounsaturated oil. Just let your imagination roll and sprinkle them on top of stir fries, salads, fresh fruit salad, duchess potatoes; use to pan fry fish or part of any topping or coating. They add a wow factor tasting and smelling moorish.

Another great product we cannot live without and use daily is our macadamia spread. Roasted macadamias put through a fine mill to produce a spread; this product is wonderful on bread, cracker biscuits, wraps, pita breads. Start any sandwich with it and then build your favourite salad combo, add your meat, egg, fish, whatever and you will not only enjoy the delicious flavour it adds to your meal but once again it acts like slow release fertiliser and you find you can get through the rest of the day feeling satiated and avoid snacking. Both the slices and spread are eaten on the front of the mouth and so you taste with your front taste buds and gain the full flavour and mouth feel as opposed to whole nuts which you tend to chew on your molars swallowing before really enjoying them.

The third product we use daily is our soap. Made from natural vegetable oils and incorporating whole macadamias, it moisturises your skin leaving you feeling like a luxurious silky cat but not greasy. Your skin and nails glow. People touring the factory comment on our skins and are surprised when we answer that we only use our macadamia soap no other moisturises. An aunt with wiry strong hair uses it also as a shampoo it lathers up beautifully. It is also great for men to shave with leaving their skin smooth, moist and cared for.

The month has seen us exhibit at the Scandinavian gathering in New Plymouth and the Home Show as well as several trips to Wellington to demonstrate our products. We have had a steady stream of touring groups during the week as well as individuals on our Sunday afternoons. The last one for the month being a visit from some members of the Taranaki vintage car club and it was great to see The Nutcracker Suite surrounded by glamorous cars from yesteryear. Autumn being ‘the season of mists and mellowness’ is also a busy time in the orchard. Fertilising, mowing, weed spraying, tree pruning, general tidying up means we are very busy.

Paul our eldest son is home after three years overseas, Christine has her sister and her three children over from Newcastle Upon Tyne in England and her parents from Auckland visiting. The rain has stopped, the mountain is out looking majestic and we are enjoying some precious family time. We hope you all also managed to do that over Easter. We feel very blessed and loved. Have an e-mazing day!
