What a start to November! E-mazing! We were open for the first time for tours during the Taranaki Rhododendron and Garden Festival held from Friday October 29th to Sunday November 7th. The festival enjoyed perfect weather and we were running the first Saturday to keep up with the numbers of people arriving for a tour. Sunday afternoon saw Christine exhibiting in the Govett Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth as part of the Slow Food Festival. This gave people a chance to taste our macadamia spread and to talk to us and view the products. This food festival was part of a Slowness exhibition the gallery has on at present.
Wednesday evening saw us taking part in Annabel Langbein’s cooking demonstration at the Plymouth International Quality Hotel. Before and after her demonstration Taranaki boutique food producers were exhibiting their products. Once again interest was high and many of the people came later in the week to tour the factory. Annabel used our fine macadamia shavings to coat salmon that was served with fresh asparagus and a hollandaise type sauce.
We have met with wonderful people all through the festival and received positive feedback. People were able to follow the process from nuts falling from the tree right through to a finished product. They were able to walk through the factory following a carpet trail and have the machinery explained to them. As a result of requests we will now be open Sunday afternoons from 2pm till 6pm during Daylight Saving, so come out and visit us and choose some unique gifts for Christmas.
This coming weekend we have a group of Dutch visitors currently hosted by the New Plymouth Friendship Society and their hosts visiting us. We look forward to meeting them all and sharing our enthusiasm for macadamias, Taranaki and New Zealand. This is an example of a visit by arrangement, which we are happy to do any time during the year.
The following weekend, November 20th and 21st, sees Christine exhibiting and retailing as part of The Taranaki Woman’s Refuge fundraiser - ‘Deck the Rooms for Refuge’. Nine New Plymouth homes and St Andrews Church in Liardet Street are decked out in a Christmas theme and open to the public. emacadamia will be at Nigel and Denise Duncan’s lovely new home at 137 Dorset Road. Tickets are available from florist shops around the province and also from the Women’s Refuge office 46 Egmont Street New Plymouth, ph (06) 769 5553. Get up a group and enjoy tripping around these beautiful homes by doing so you help support the important and life saving work of Women’s Refuge.
Many thanks to all offering us support and encouragement. A special thank you to Noel and Val Coates, long time family friends, who came out nearly every day during the Festival to help. Noel made a hit as a tour guide. And to Pat of Huddersfield in England who made us samples of her special chocolate and nut truffles and brought them back to us to sample…wonderful! Such generosity of spirit is much appreciated.
Best love to you all, may you enjoy the days ahead and we look forward to meeting you.
