Pistachio nuts are native to the Middle East and have been grown for nut production in Iran, Turkey and Syria for hundreds of years.

Early archaeological findings suggest that human beings were enjoying them as early as 7,000 BC.

They spread from the Middle East to the Mediterranean. Along with almonds they were frequently carried across the Silk Road that connected China with the West.

They are mentioned in the Bible. They have been more recently cultivated in the United States.

Iran, United States, Turkey, Syria and China are the main producers.
