The walnut is one of the world’s oldest foods. They have been carbon dated back to the Neolithic period, more than 80,000 years ago.

There are over 21 different species of walnut. Some are thought to have originated from Persia others from Gaul and Italy. They spread from south east Europe to Japan, from south east Canada west to California and south to Argentina.

China, United States, France, Mexico, Ukraine and Romania are the world’s largest walnut producers.

Health Information

Walnuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, contain carbohydrates, protein, fats, calcium, phosphorous, potassium, small amounts of sodium and iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, zinc, vitamin A, some vitamin C, vitamin E, all the vitamin B group including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and some biotin and folic acid.
